Stretch ceilings look amazing right after they are installed. But, how do you keep it looking great?
Stretch ceilings do not need much maintenance. They are nonporous and anti-static, therefore they rarely need cleaning.
To help you get a better idea of how to maintain your stretch ceiling, we explain what they are made from, how to clean them, and how long you can expect your ceiling to last, in this blog.
How Do You Maintain A Stretch Ceiling?

What Are Stretch Ceilings?
Stretch ceilings are dropped ceilings that are made up of two parts: a perimeter track and fabric.
Stretch ceilings can be made out of various materials including PVC membrane.
Certain materials will stain more easily than others. We suggest that you speak with your installation professionals before construction to ensure you know what material is being used for your ceiling.
How To Maintain Stretch Ceilings
Stretch ceilings are highly durable and resistant by nature. They are made from a PVC membrane that is waterproof, fireproof, and dustproof. They also do not absorb odours and are anti-microbial, meaning that no microorganisms cannot live and grow on the surface of your ceiling membrane.
You do not need to do much to maintain your stretch ceiling. In fact, we do not recommend regular cleaning! Your stretch ceiling is naturally immune to stains and mold.
How To Clean A Stretch Ceiling
A water leak and sprays are common occurrences in the bathroom. In the kitchen, meal prep gone wrong can cause food splatters. No matter what the mess might be, you need to know how to clean your ceiling.
If you find that your stretch ceiling needs to be cleaned, contact our team. Our experts can explain how you can clean your ceiling the right way. We can also provide you with the approved cleaning products like Barriclean, the only cleaning product recommended to clean BARRISOL® stretch ceilings.
In the event of leaks or stains on the backside of the membrane, Barrisol installers will need to be called to open the ceiling, clean and then reinstall. You can trust that we will clean your ceiling for you, so you do not have to worry about accidentally voiding your warranty.
How Long Do Stretch Ceilings Last?
The average stretch ceiling will last approximately 15+ years with proper installation and maintenance. That being said, there are stretch ceilings that were installed over 25 years ago and still look like new.
A stretch ceiling will last much longer than a traditional ceiling finishing, which will only last approximately ten years. So, if you are tired of your old, yellowing, and stained ceiling tiles, a stretch ceiling is a great choice; it is a durable, long-lasting, and attractive solution for every room.
