Stretch Ceiling Construction
Stretch ceilings are amazing interior finishes that can transform any room, but how are they installed? Our experts explain stretch ceiling construction below.
1. Install The Perimeter Track On Drywall
First, we create the frame for the new ceiling. We install aluminum tracks on the walls below the existing ceiling to make up a track system. The membrane that makes up the stretch ceiling is later attached.
The ceiling height will be affected since the aluminum profiles are installed in the drywall below the ceiling. Stretch ceilings are typically only a couple of inches lower than the original ceiling, but height can vary from project to project.
2. Stretch The Membrane Over The Profiles
The next step is attaching the stretch ceiling to the frame. We do this by heating the entire room with propane heaters so that the membrane can become malleable. Once it is malleable, we start stretching the corners of the membrane over the aluminum profiles on the drywall.
In the next step, we tighten the membrane’s surface and create the ceiling’s structure by attaching the harpoons.
3. Secure And Shrink The Stretch Ceiling
After the membrane is stretched over the tracks, it needs to be secured. The last stage of installation is attaching the PVC harpoons to the profiles.
Heat allows the membrane to easily stretch far enough over the aluminum profiles. It also ensures the harpoons are pliable enough to be secured to the profiles. After the heat is removed, the membrane will magically shrink back to its original form, tightening to create a stunning stretch ceiling.
4. Enjoy Your New Ceiling
Now that installation is complete, you are free to enjoy your new ceiling! It is durable and can withstand many elements. For example, BARRISOL® PVC ceilings are fire-proof, dust-free, waterproof, odour-free, and antimicrobial. If it ever gets dirty, all you need to do is wipe it down with a wet cloth.

What Is A Stretch Ceiling?
A stretch ceiling is a type of interior finish that covers the original ceiling in a room with a ceiling made out of PVC membrane materials. More specifically, a stretch ceiling consists of two main parts: lightweight aluminum tracks, which are installed on drywall, and a flexible, fire-resistant, waterproof PVC membrane that is secured to the tracks.
Cover Unsightly Fixtures and Add Art To Your Ceiling
One of the best features of stretch ceilings is their ability to transform any space; they can be used to make the surface of your ceilings look sleek and seamless from wall to wall.
In addition to their sleek appearance, stretch ceilings can also be customized. You can choose from a wide range of colours and finishes. For example, BARRISOL® creates a wide range of materials and designs, including mirrors, printed, and satin. Whether you want a high gloss stretch ceiling in your dining room or printed ceilings, it is possible.
If you want to go the extra mile, you can also have the ceiling stretched into different shapes, or curved to make a three-dimensional ceiling. It is a great way to make an impressive statement in your house, commercial building, or educational institution.

How Much Does A Stretch Ceiling Cost?
It is difficult to predict the cost of a stretch ceiling because all stretch ceilings are custom-made for the specific project. As a result, the cost of a stretch ceiling will vary depending on several factors, including the location, size of the room, material, length of professional installation, and more.
